Howling Nights and beaten days - TOI

Just read the article written by a Journalist in TOI .I personally worked in a multinational call center 2 years ago !!!!!!!! it was my first job. I had gone for interviews all across bombay and yes secured many offer letters but the salary was something i really wasnt agreeging to. Now i have sobbered a lot.You all know how you feel as soon as your out of college.I wanted a descent job with a nice pay package that was the criteria "PAY PACKAGE" .Being a girl trust me it was so damn difficult for me to make my Dad understand why i wanted to do this job especially if you have a Dad who doesnt care how much money a job gets you. Finally i started working the NIGHT SHIFTS.The first 6 weeks went in training .We were taught all the tricks and trades of the process. The security level was to be taken care of since our so called clients from across the globe were very scared of identity theft. The daily routine was obviously like Lucky nights you wake up and days you sleep ! on the day off as well you would be so stressed out that you would just crash into the bed.
Nights passed by the routine became the same !!!!!!!!!
But all this while what i didnt realise was that there was this other world other than the one during the day !The people workign during the night have hardly any contact with the ones working during the day.Eventually you form a family of your own !!!!
You have so many people who are sailing in the same boat that you have been sailing into .
You tend to get " Bonded"
bonded since they are the only humans that you are in touch with .
Not all customers are nice to you you get so many callers who abuse you may be for your race ,for stealign employment from their sons / daughters, for being an Indian.
The one thing that i was really proud of was the fact that we were never asked to put an ascent and no pseudo names for us as well .Our process heads didnt believe in that concept for some reason And something in me made me feel proud for the same !!!!!!!!!!!
As much as we detested the fact that we had to work in the night it definatly had its own perks ..........After shifts the roads would be completly empty we would just ride the bike through jsut to get the wind running between our hair.Have a nice cutting chai from the fello who would be standign below the building carrying the tea in a steel vessel on his cycle .He would provide for cigretts and biscuts and other small items. He was the most wanted fella during our breaks coz of the lack of shops around at that deadly hour of the night .
Many friends of mine found their life partners while working .They are setteled now with babies n all !Initially the bosses were dead against couples or spouses workign in the same process , they were councelled to either change process or change the companies !
But eventually i guess they settled with the idea !
After nearly a year and a half i descided to spread my wings and move on leav my life as an owl and " move to something stabler in life" as my folks kept saying.Hehehehehehehe...finally i did .But i miss all that i did then especially the fact that i dont get open roads any more alwyaz get stuck in traffic.Dont have the pleasure of having a cutting T in the middle of the chilly night.

Well all good times have to come to an end i guess .....................
